Old Monty Cider began life in 2006 following a bumper apple harvest in 2005, and many previous years experience making cider as a hobby, using a 20 litre handpress and mill.
In 2008 we invested in a small field (2.5 acres) which would become our own orchard. Each winter more trees are being planted, mostly from cuttings taken from our favourite orchards in the area. Most are standard trees but there are also some bush trees to make most use of the land and maximise diversity of variety. It is hoped that when the orchard begins producing it will be fully organic.
Using traditonal methods, pure apple juice and natural fermentaion means that flavour and alcohol levels will vary season to season according to apple varieties and sugar content. We can however assure the quality of every cider we produce irrespective of individual charectaristics, and we firmly believe that these delicate variations in charectar are what makes small scale cider production so interesting. No concentrates, flavourings or sulphites are added to any of our ciders.
Old Monty Cider wishes to thanks all those that have supplied apples for cider making over the years, and we hope to keep using Montgomeryshire apples for cider production for many years to come.
